The scene was set for a four-way battle for the last finals spot in the Kyabram District League as teams took to the field on Saturday afternoon.

The route to a finals place for the Towners relied on other results going their way but one thing was for certain, they had to beat Rushworth to have any hope.

The Towners dominated from the word go and comprehensively defeated the Tigers 50 to 20.

With Merrigum and Avenel ahead of Violet town on the ladder but not out of reach the Towners needed both sides to record losses.

The pressure was palpable at Avenel Recreation Reserve as the Swans needed a win over local rivals Nagambie to seal a finals place.

Nagambie’s regular season was not wrapped up yet either as the Lakers needed a victory to have a chance of finishing above the Kangaroos on the ladder who had the Sunday fixture in this round.

The two teams looked well matched out on court but when it came to scoring efficiency the Lakers had the edge and claimed a 42-to-64-goal win.

With the Swans’ loss, the gate was wide open for Violet Town to grab hold of a finals place.

Merrigum was unable to stop the invincible Shepparton East side who sealed a perfect regular season with a 52-to-25-goal win over the Bulldogs.

Results had all gone Violet Town’s way and the side secured the sixth-place finish it had been dreaming off by two points on the ladder.

Violet Town will play third-placed Dookie United in an elimination final this week as Tallygraoopna pulled off an upset win to jump into the top two with a 52 to 25 win over United.

Nagambie will take on Girgarre in its do-or-die finals match as Tallygaroopna and Shepparton East have a week off to prepare for their match-up for a place in the KDL grand final.
