When the Swans flew into the Town on Sunday afternoon they looked like they had a point to prove.

The game was the Towners’ last in the KDL this season with a bye in the final round as Rushworth was not able to field a senior side this year.

Violet Town was looking to finish its season strong while results in the previous day of play ended any chance Avenel had at claiming the sixth finals berth.

The affair could have been a quiet one with both sides lamenting what could have been but that was far from the case.

A free-flowing first quarter saw the Swans fly away to an early lead and the side continued to force home its advantage to lead by 50 points at half-time.

While the Towners piled on five goals in the third spell, the Swans responded with six of their own and at full time it was Avenel beating its chest with a 10.8 (68) 21.11 (137) victory.
