Jack Montgomery was a standout at full back, being able to take a few intercept marks.
Angus Richardson, Kobi Thwaites and Luke Welsh were consistent all day with support from Ryder Robertson, Nate Nicholas and Billy Dyer.
Our last quarter was our best with both girls in Ruby Richardson and Mary Moll making a few tackles. With a few players out this week hopefully a few kids can step up and try a few new things towards their game.
Benalla Giants under-12s hosted Wangaratta Magpies at the Benalla Showgrounds on Sunday in the wet conditions.
The young Giants worked hard to defend the Magpies’ constant attacks, and stepped up their tackling and pressure.
Josh Mathieson continued his great form with another strong performance, while Noah Hogan and Josh Hart also worked hard. First-year players Harry Skelton, Boden Hazell, Riley McCarthy and Hayley Zeibell all played their best games for the season.
In other matches, Benalla Bulldogs under 14s were defeated by Imperials, and the Giants lost to the Junior Magpies. No other details were provided.
Benalla’s combined under-17 team was defeated by Wangaratta Imperials. Tom Riley, Tyler McGregor and Alex Murphy were the best players.
