Occasionally, a pair has a good deal of skill (and luck) with the hands and scores 70%. This happened on Thursday night when Helen Hollingsworth and Jenny Tuttle reached that enviable height in the three-table competition.

They had every reason to be pleased and proud of their efforts. However, they came second.

Tom and Jan Hackett had a magical run where they hardly put a foot (or a card) wrong. They came in with 76% - sorry Jenny and Helen.

Les Williams and David Ware rounded out the placings with 52%. To have two pairs finish with 70% or more is rare indeed.

This event is for players with less than 300 master points and there are many prizes to be won, so the competition was keen.
