In Loving Memory of Richard “Richie” Ellis (1947–2025)
Richard William Ellis, affectionately known as Richie by his family, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2025, at the age of 78. A devoted father and grandfather, Richard lived a life defined by self determination, generosity and humour.
Born on January 12th, 1947, in Scottsdale, Tasmania, Richard was the eldest of two children to Allan and Violet Ellis. Moving back to Box Hill in Melbourne, he made lifelong friends in these formative years before leaving school to start a career in the public service. This career spanned almost three decades, during which he worked across many Govt Depts finishing as Assistant Managing Director, Dept of Agriculture & Rural Affairs.
In 1966, Richard married Ellen and together, they raised three children - Gavan, Jason and Imagen (Jane), instilling in them the values of resilience, humour, generosity and perseverance. Throughout an early retirement Richard shifted his focus to a small regional hobby farm in Yarck, Victoria. This property provided family and friends an idyllic weekend getaway retreat for more than 30 years and was a true testament to the care and thought that he extended to those he loved.
Richard had a deep love for music, literature and was passionate about politics and current affairs. He was well known for his wicked sense of humour, storytelling, intellect and innate knack for building and home improvements.
He is survived by Ellen and their children, Gavan, Jason and Imagen and his grandchildren, Nathan, Juliet, Sophie, Samantha and Zeph.
In accordance with Richard’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral or public memorial. His family asks that you take a quiet moment to remember him in your own way - through a shared story, a favorite song, or the kindness you extend to others in his memory.
His legacy of humour and mischief will live on in all who knew him.
