MORAN PE, Reverend Barry Michael
Fr Barry Moran passed away on Tuesday 28 October 2025, at Justin Villa, Balwyn, aged 88 years.
He was ordained a priest on 24 July 1960 at St Patrick’s Cathedral, East Melbourne. He was appointed as Assistant Priest to Greensborough Parish (1960), Carlton Parish and Springvale Parish (1961), Glenroy Parish (1966).
After a short period administering Parkville Parish in 1970 he was appointed Assistant Priest to Balaclava Parish (1971) and Bennettswood Parish (1973). In 1974 he was appointed as the founding Parish Priest of Resurrection Parish, Keysborough.
From 1976 he was appointed to the Biblical Apostolate where he served as Director for two terms.
Fr Barry with his considerable learning was for many years a tutor at Corpus Christi Clayton and mentored many in the transition from seminary to parish ministry. He was then appointed Parish Priest of Frankston (1982) and Werribee (1991). In 1992 he was appointed Vicar Forane, Deanery Co-Ordinator for the Westgate Deanery. In 2000 he was appointed the Parish Priest of St Mary’s Parish, St Kilda East where he remained for 16 years until his retirement in 2016.
Fr Barry was deeply appreciated by his brother priests and people alike. The Archdiocese acknowledges his service to the Church over 65 years.
