Father Michael Leonard Shadbolt PE died on Thursday 4 December 2025 at Epworth Hospital, Richmond, aged 86 years. Ordained to the priesthood on 25 July 1964 he was appointed as Assistant Priest to Coburg Parish 1964, Doveton Parish, 1965, and Mansfield Parish in 1966, where he was also the Chaplain to the Catholic Ski Club. From 1969 until 1979 he was with the Melbourne Overseas Mission and ministered in Venezuela. Upon returning to the Archdiocese, he was appointed Assistant Priest at Ascot Vale and Part Time Chaplain to Mercy College. In 1977 he was the Assistant Priest at St Kilda West and in 1980 appointed as Chaplain to the Spanish-Speaking Community and then the Latin American Community. In 1989, he was appointed as Assistant Priest at Belmont Parish, Sunshine Parish, 1991 and then in 1996 as the Administrator for the parish. He served as Assistant Priest at Hampton Park Parish until 1999 and was then appointed as Parish Priest of Doveton. He ministered faithfully in Doveton for 20 years until his retirement in 2019, at which time he was Pastor Emeritus. Fr Michael was a priest of deep kindness, great spiritual strength, and pastoral wisdom. He ministered with generosity and compassion, in particular assisting people with their personal and spiritual struggles. The Archdiocese acknowledges his service to the Church over 61 years.
