Goulburn-Murray Water is gearing up for its Winter Works program, which kicks off when the irrigation season ends on May 15.

The annual program allows G-MW to to complete important maintenance and refurbishment works on its delivery network outside of its water delivery obligations.
G-MW Infrastructure Delivery Services general manager Warren Jose said G-MW staff and contractors would work on a broad range of projects during the irrigation off-season.
“We plan extensively for the Winter Works program to ensure we can maximise productivity during the three-month period,” he said.
“In the coming weeks, we will have more than 100 staff working on projects such as refurbishing channels, treating aquatic weeds, and replacing and repairing various assets.
“These works all play a vital role in supporting the efficiency and reliability of our delivery network.
“It’s a busy time for our staff, but the benefits of these works are significant.”
During the Winter Works program, G-MW will dewater various channels to enable it to complete works on assets that would usually be below the waterline.
Customers have been advised to plan ahead and ensure, if needed, they have alternate arrangements to secure their water during the irrigation off-season.
Mr Jose encouraged people to also be mindful of changed traffic conditions during the works program.
“There will be an increase of traffic on back roads as heavy vehicles and equipment access our channels and properties over the next three months, so we ask that people take extra care on the roads during this period,” he said.
The Winter Works program will be completed by August 14 to allow channels to be recharged and ready for the start of the 2024-25 irrigation season on August 15.
