Last Saturday, November 25, was also the launch of Victoria Against Violence (VAV), a 16-day campaign, which aims to address family violence.
Events are being held in cities and towns across Victoria, including Shepparton and Wodonga.
VLGA chair Kathryn Arndt was recently appointed to the Victorian Ministerial Council on Women’s Equality.
‘‘In this state, we have 70 councils that have adopted the Victorian Local Government Women’s Charter,’’ Ms Arndt said.
‘‘One of the key principles of the Charter is gender equity — that women have a right to be equally represented at all levels of decision-making.
‘‘This is a critical issue in preventing violence against women.’’
