Towners have a downer

By Benalla Ensign

In what was a hard-fought battle Shepparton East came away with the four points agaist Violet Town, cruising to a 28-point win.

The arch rivals traded blows throughout the game, but late goals to the Eagles ensured bragging rights.

No more than 11 points separated the teams in the first three quarters, but early Eagles goals in the final term put the home side’s hope of victory to bed.

Violet Town’s Kevin Kiernan and Jett Bewick were outstanding for all four quarters, as was Jaydyn Guppy who continued his fine form this season.

Solid games from Todd Rodgers, Ashton Triffett and Matt McCarty rounded out the Towners’ best.

It was a disappointing result for Violet Town who now faces Rushworth away, with a win a non-negotiable if their slim hopes of finals are to be kept alive.
