The 63-year-old comedian returned to host the satirical TV news show on a part-time basis in 2024 - but now, after agreeing a new deal with Comedy Central, he will continue to host his once-a-week show until the next US election.

George Cheeks, the co-chair and chief content officer at production company Skydance TV, announced the deal in a statement on Monday.

"Jon Stewart is a generational talent and The Daily Show continues to be one of the most influential franchises on television and a cornerstone of Comedy Central," he said.

"We are excited to continue our partnership with Jon and his award-winning news team."

The latest agreement is Stewart's longest extension since returning to the hit TV show.

He originally left The Daily Show in 2015, when he was replaced by comedian Trevor Noah, who departed in December 2022.

Stewart has also served as an executive producer on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, which was cancelled in May.Â
