Despite recent weather interruptions and a moderate flood event, construction remains on schedule and aligned with expected project outcomes.
Contractors have worked diligently to progress the build, successfully bringing the new extension out of the ground and advancing internal works.
As the project team moves deeper into the upgrade of the existing gallery, they are working through some challenges associated with the building’s age.
This process has also highlighted opportunities to further strengthen the long‑term performance of the facility.
As part of this, potential roof improvement works are currently being investigated, ensuring the redeveloped gallery delivers a contemporary, high‑quality and resilient space for the community.
With structural works well progressed, the focus now shifts to the internal fit out of the new extension and continued upgrades within the existing building.
These improvements will enhance exhibition capability and capacity, visitor experience, and the gallery’s ability to support cultural activity for decades to come.
During the redevelopment, the Pop-Up Benalla Art Gallery at 75 Bridge St East remains open, offering exhibitions, workshops and the much loved Gallery Shop.
This space ensures locals and visitors can still enjoy art and cultural experiences while works are under way.
Deputy Mayor Justin King said the project continues to progress strongly and reflects council’s commitment to delivering a high‑quality cultural space for the region.
“It’s great to see the redevelopment taking shape,” he said.
“The team is doing an excellent job keeping the project on track, and we’re excited to see it continue to evolve into a space the whole region can be proud of.
“Council acknowledges the commitment of the project team and contractors and looks forward to sharing further updates as works continue.”
