With so many talented artists having work displayed at the SCRAP Art Exhibition, the Fine Art Exhibition and the Broken River Painters Exhibition, The Ensign could not possibly do the festival justice in one story and picture spread.
This week we will focus on the second annual SCRAP Art Prize and exhibition. Keep an eye out next week for a feature on the fine art and Broken Creek Painters exhibitions.
This year’s SCRAP Art Prize winner was Stuart Taylor for his intricate and creative metalwork project, Fat Cod.
He took home a share of more than $7000 in prizes.
One of the event organisers Peter Finney said the committee received more than 100 entries this year.
“Entries were submitted online and we had to select the works to exhibit from those,” Mr Finney said.
“They were delivered this week and the judging took place on Friday, prior to the Gala Opening.
“The judging this year was done by Amanda Gibson who’s a renowned artist and she gave lots of great feedback at the opening.
“We’ve got 72 works on display, as most entries made the grade.
“Some were a little bit too big, or too heavy to get into the hall - but it was a very interesting selection process."
With every entry listed for sale, and a great variety, there is something for every art enthusiast - from small works listed for $50 going all the way up to the bigger, more intricate entries, which cost several thousand dollars.
“Everything is for sale. We were very lucky in that we sold a number of pieces at the Gala Opening,” Mr Finney said.
"But we have plenty still available if visitors are interested.
“We also have a raffle and there’s a piece in our foyer that one lucky person will win.
“We also have delicious morning and afternoon teas and a lunch menu.”
