Event organisers say local support has become more important than ever.
With government assistance falling short, community members have had to lean on one another, relying on fundraising initiatives to rebuild and support those affected.
The Longwood Football Netball Club’s Annual President’s Luncheon, which will kick off at noon on Saturday, July 18, promises to be a memorable day.
Held at the Longwood Football Netball Club, the luncheon will welcome AFL legend Peter Daicos and AFL commissioner and former Hawthorn Football Club president Andrew Newbold to the local footy grounds.
Event organiser Alistair Ewart said the luncheon was about much more than football.
A framed Collingwood jumper signed by Peter, Josh and Nick Daicos will be auctioned at the luncheon.

“While we’re looking forward to hearing from Peter and Andrew, the day is really about bringing people together and supporting the Longwood community as we continue our recovery,” he said.
“We’re still struggling to access the level of government support that’s needed, so we’ve had to roll up our sleeves and raise funds ourselves.
“Every dollar raised will help our community continue its recovery and build for the future.”
Attendees can expect an afternoon full of guest speakers, auctions, raffles, prizes and giveaways, with proceeds helping to support the club and the wider Longwood community.
Auction highlights include a framed Collingwood jumper signed by Peter, Josh and Nick Daicos, a specially commissioned caricature of Peter Daicos, seven nights of luxury accommodation at Port Douglas, a private suite at the Kooyong Classic and a private box at the Flemington races.
Tickets to the luncheon cost $85 per person.
