On opening night, Friday, September 11, the school will become an art gallery, showcasing what the Prep to Year 6 students have created throughout the school year.
The works will also be on display on Sunday, September 13, coinciding with the Avenel Market.
“It’s all of our artwork that we do from the beginning of the year, and I hold on to all of it,” visual art teacher Mel Kecskes said.
“We have a big showcase of everything on the Friday night, and then we are open on Sunday, which ties in with the Avenel Market every year.”
The art show is a whole school and wider community event.
Although funds are raised for the school through purchasing of the students’ art works, the show is more about spotlighting local talent.
“We raise a little bit of money, but it’s really more just showcasing the kids’ work,” Ms Kecskes said.
“They’re always proud as punch showing their families around.”
Ms Kecskes said it was also about showing the effort that went into creating the works.
“I’m very much a skills-based art teacher. When I put their work up, it includes a little blurb about what process we went through to create everything,” she said.
“I hope that the kids will then, as they walk around, talk to their families about what they did and how they did it.
“It adds that extra element of learning so they can repeat what they did, and they can also just show their skills and what they’ve been doing.”
Every child at the school will have a piece of artwork framed and on display.
“They feel like little artists because we put up a little sold sticker on their frame when it gets sold,” Ms Kecskes said.
Opening night will run at the Avenel Primary School campus between 5pm and 6.30pm.
On Sunday, the general public can access the exhibition between 10am and noon.
