To facilitate the works, the gallery will temporarily close to the public from Sunday, September 28.
While the closure marks the beginning of a transformative journey, art lovers won’t have to wait long to reconnect with the gallery’s offerings.
A temporary pop-up gallery will open its doors in mid-November at 75 Bridge St East, ensuring the community and visitors can continue to enjoy high-quality exhibitions and engaging public programs throughout the redevelopment period.
The pop-up gallery will feature a dedicated exhibition space and will also house the Benalla Art Gallery Shop, which will continue to showcase works by artists from north east Victoria and maintain its valued partnership with Arts Project Australia.
The redevelopment project, funded by the Regional Cultural Infrastructure Program and the Growing Regions Program, will modernise the gallery while preserving its heritage-listed features.
The upgrades will enhance the gallery’s capacity to host nationally significant exhibitions, improve amenities, and ensure its long-term sustainability.
The Benalla Art Gallery team is committed to keeping the community informed throughout the redevelopment process.
