The Benalla Bushwalkers visited the ‘Magic Forest’ near Stanley on a recent trek.
Not deterred by the gloomy weather forecast, nine Benalla Bushwalking Club members embarked on a drive and walk in the Beechworth and Stanley area on Sunday, July 12.

A club spokesperson said walk leader Wendy Baker led them to their first stop: Woolshed Falls.
“After recent rains, (it was) raging,” the spokesperson said.
“It was also interesting to view the granite water race, a relic from the gold mining days.
“An eerie mist enveloped Lake Sambell, as we began the circuit track, normally an easy walk, but today involved a challenging, steep detour around a fallen branch.”
The Benalla Bushwalkers most recent adventure took them to several beauty spots near Beechworth.
The walkers then travelled to an iconic Stanley location.
“After a very welcome coffee in Beechworth, we headed to the ‘Magic Forest’ near Stanley,” the spokesperson said.
“Although challenging to locate, the discovery of this attraction was worth the search.
“The stand of grand Californian Redwoods and its cute Fairy Gardens delighted everyone.”
The group took a break to enjoy lunch at the cosy, historic, Stanley Pub.
“To complete the day, we drove along Lady Newton Dve to view Murmungee Lookout and Bates Dam,” the spokesperson said.
“The verdict was that it was a thoroughly enjoyable day out that hopefully can be repeated on a sunny day.”
