This communication is being shared during National Volunteer Week as part of council’s commitment to recognising and thanking local volunteers.
Council’s volunteers support a wide range of programs and facilities, including the Visitor Information Centre, Benalla Art Gallery, Benalla Cinema, the Sir Edward ‘Weary’ Dunlop Learning Centre and RedB4 Book Shop.
Volunteers also play an important role in caring for the Botanical Gardens and parks, supporting the TAC L2P Learner Driver Program, assisting with community events and festivals, contributing to the work of the Litter Gatherers and Age Friendly Benalla, as well as helping deliver a range of youth programs.
Mayor Bernie Hearn said National Volunteer Week was an important opportunity to recognise the people who gave so much to Benalla Rural City.
“Volunteers are at the heart of our community. Their generosity, passion and commitment make Benalla a more connected, welcoming and supportive place,” Cr Hearn said.
“We are incredibly fortunate to have volunteers who contribute across so many areas — from arts and culture to youth programs, environmental care, community events and lifelong learning.
“Their work enriches our community every single day.”
Cr Hearn said council was proud to support a wide range of volunteer opportunities.
“Whether you’re greeting visitors, supporting young people, helping keep our parks beautiful or contributing to local events, every volunteer plays a vital role,” she said.
“We are grateful for everything you do.”
