The hall has been refurbished and extended to deliver fit-for-purpose facilities for both the spiritual and practical activities of The Salvation Army in Benalla.
The current project commenced in 2020, and has significantly increased the food relief facilities of the Corps.
Salvation Army Benalla Corps officer Captain Ben Anderson said this project had been nearly 15 years in the making.
“The redevelopment of Benalla Corps is particularly timely, given cost-of-living pressures,” he said.
“And housing affordability in Benalla has seen demand for our food relief services double in the last three years.”
The new hall has shower and laundry facilities to provide services for the homeless and those who have a temporary emergency.
To celebrate the opening of the new hall, and to mark 140 years of The Salvation Army in Benalla, the corps will host a celebration weekend on October 4 and 5.
Commissioner Miriam Gluyas, the Australian leader of The Salvation Army, will officially open the hall, and the Ringwood Citadel Band will present a concert to commemorate the 140 years of The Salvation Army in Benalla. All are welcome to attend.
Saturday, October 4 from 11am to 1.30pm — the official opening of Benalla Salvation Army Hall, followed by an open day at 85 Bridge St West.
Saturday, October 4 at 4pm — celebration concert featuring the Ringwood Citadel Band at Benalla P-12 College’s Faithfull St Campus Performing Arts Centre.
Sunday, October 5 at 10.30am — worship meeting at Benalla Corps Hall, with Commissioner Miriam Gluyas and the Ringwood Citadel Band.
