Year 9 students Ben Green, Boden Hazell, Ruby Hedt, Hannah McCullagh, Joel Lewis, and Elijah Kerrs will attend the Alpine School at Dinner Plain for nine weeks in term four as part of the Schools for Student Leadership program.
A school spokesperson said the program was a unique opportunity for students to develop leadership and life skills, and grow as individuals.
“While at Dinner Plain, students will take part in activities designed to challenge and inspire them, including hiking, biking, raft-building and first-aid-training,” the spokesperson said.
“These experiences encourage students to develop resilience, teamwork and problem-solving skills while learning how to be effective and thoughtful leaders.”
A key component of the program is the Community Learning Project, which students complete upon returning to Benalla P-12 College.
Last year’s group members raised over $10,000 for the Live4Life program with their 12km walk around Lake Benalla.
“The 2025 group already has an exciting project planned and look forward to making a meaningful contribution to the community in 2026,” the spokesperson said.
Joel said he was excited to undertake the program.
“While I will miss being at school, this is a fantastic opportunity to grow, meet new people from other schools and develop skills that will help me now and in the future,” he said.
The school spokesperson said Benalla P-12 College was proud to support these students as they took on this life-changing experience.
“We are thrilled that they have the chance to grow as leaders, make new connections and return with skills that will benefit both themselves and the wider community,” the spokesperson said.
