From all the wonderful things Tomorrow Today does, to sports, performing arts and everything in between – the Rose City has it all.
One of the great clubs for youngsters to get involved with is Move + Groove, a program which develops whole body strength, fitness, coordination and expression through the disciplines of acrobatics and contemporary dance.
Run by local dancer and teacher, Erin Fischer, each session begins with a warm-up and drills, focusing on fundamental movement skills such as jumping, balancing, hopping, skipping and rolling, before moving into acrobatics skills.
“At the moment we are building handstand, cartwheel and bridge technique, which will allow for more complex skills such as aerial cartwheels, walkovers, round-offs and handsprings down the track,” Erin said.
“The second half of our sessions dive into contemporary dance – exploring the possibilities of the human body to communicate and express in interesting ways.”
Erin said she is passionate about sharing the performing arts with young people, getting them excited to dance and becoming co-ordinated in their bodies, which flows on to many other aspects of life.
“I began dancing at just four years of age, and never stopped,” she said.
“I am so grateful for the joy I feel when I'm dancing, and wish for as many people as possible to experience the same.
“I was lucky enough to learn acrobatics from a national level gymnast, who taught safe and effective strategies for coaching acrobatics skills.”
Erin said that since starting Move + Groove, the response has been overwhelmingly positive.
“We had two packed holiday programs in July 2025 and April 2026,” she said.
“And a full class of happy dancers now attends weekly on Fridays.”
One of the things that makes the program a success is having access to amazing facilities. Erin operates Move + Groove from two locations in Benalla, the Drill Hall, and the Presbytarian Church Hall.
“The Benalla Gymnastics Club drill hall is a terrific venue, allowing participants to experience a full sized, fully sprung gym floor in their own town,” Erin said.
Move + Groove Holiday Intensive sessions will run on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the upcoming school holidays, with sessions for primary aged, secondary aged and adult participants.
“These are a great option for those who can't commit to a weekly program, but would like something fun and active to do over the holidays,” Erin said.
“Sessions for upper primary and lower secondary students will be commencing in term three at the Benalla Presbyterian Church Hall, on Tuesdays from 4pm-5.30pm.
