The produce giant, that specialises in juicy tomatoes, donated $7,678 to ERH, a total that was raised through their annual Pick-a-Box Day.
This beloved community tradition, now in its tenth year, welcomed locals to Timmering Farms near Rochester on March 7, where families could pick their own box of fresh tomatoes for just $10.
The community event raised $3,839, which Kagome matched dollar-for-dollar, creating the final donation amount.
Kagome chief executive Brad Free said events like this were the produce giant’s way of giving back to the community and the region that keeps them running.
Health services were specifically chosen for the donation because of tomatoes' well-established reputation as a superfood, creating a natural healthy connection.
“The link with ERH is a strong one – we’re growing a healthy produce, and they are helping to look after people’s health,” he said.
Mr Free said by doing these events, funds can go straight to services that support people who need it most.
ERH chief executive Carol-Anne Lever warmly welcomed the donation from Kagome.
“ERH is once again proud to partner with Kagome as the beneficiary of their annual tomato pick,” she said.
“This valued partnership has been in place for many years, and it is an event that our staff and community look forward to supporting.
“ERH will be using the generous donation from the day to purchase new equipment for the health service, which will enable ERH to support everyone to be healthy and live well.”
Mr Free wished to thank the Kagome team who donated their time to make the event happen, as well as the community who came out to support the event, and in turn, their local health service.
