As part of the Benalla Festival, the Garage Sale Trail will run over two weekends, November 8-9 and 15-16, with thousands of garage sales popping up in streets, schools, front yards and community spaces around the country.
Locals are encouraged to host their own sale or join forces with the neighbours, taking part on one day or across both weekends.
Benalla Mayor Bernie Hearn said the program was a win for both the environment and the community, and a chance for residents to make a real difference.
‘We’re thrilled to have the Garage Sale Trail as part of this year’s Benalla Festival,“ Cr Hearn said.
“It’s a great way for locals to declutter, connect with neighbours and even make a bit of extra cash.
“It’s all about giving things a second life and keeping them out of landfill – a win for the community and the environment.”
Registration is free and includes access to downloadable signs, how-to guides and promotion tools – making it easy to take part.
Last year, the average seller made $499, proving that selling second hand is as good for the wallet as it is for the planet.
“There is always something for everyone at garage sales – from fashion and homewares to kids toys, tools, plants and books,” Cr Hearn said.
Participation is free thanks to Benalla Rural City Council, helping locals reduce waste and embrace the circular economy.
