On my first Wednesday, we headed over to the Shepparton News, sister paper of the Ensign, to see how it operates.
The first thing I did in the morning was take some stock photos before we shot over to Shepp.
Going there was fun and I had an opportunity to edit some of the photos I’d taken.
I also learnt how to schedule the Ensign posts for Instagram and Facebook, which was great.
The next Wednesday was less hectic.
I took some lovely photos of the botanical gardens and the rest of Benalla flourishing as we go into spring, which I really enjoyed as I love taking photos of the flora in Benalla.
After that, I wandered the streets of Benalla capturing street life, to be used as stock photos.
Then I popped back into the office to edit those photos.
Once I had done that, I did some more scheduling where we used Canva to get the template and then added a little teaser into what the article was about.
I also learnt that with crime and court articles, we have to post them and turn comments off.
This is because you don’t want comments on them that could influence an ongoing court case, or defame someone mentioned.
In the afternoon, we popped over to the gliding club, where they host RATT (Room at the Table).
They are doing an event on Christmas Day for people who may not have anywhere to be.
I took a photo of Andrea and Carla for the front page of the Ensign.
After that, Simon interviewed the two of them about the event.
I am writing this on Wednesday, October 15. My first job today was another photographic assignment, to get photos of the new train station build.
Once I had done that, we went and interviewed a couple of RSL members about new memorials.
Once we finished, they told us they were going to give a donation to local police.
So I took a couple of photos there.
So far, I have enjoyed it very much.
Especially taking the photos, but it has also been fun to see how the writing process works.
