Off-duty cop chases man after hit and run

Police allege a dirt bike riding north collided with a vehicle turning into the shopping centre entrance before the rider ran off. But not before allegedly stopping briefly to grab a pair of shoes.

Leading Senior Constable Murdoch said bystanders began calling out the rider was running away so he took action.

“I chased him and sort of grabbed him and he broke free from my grasp,” he said.

Other members of the public also joined the pursuit.

The man later presented to hospital with injuries before being arrested by Echuca police.

The occupants of the other vehicle were not injured, but the car had significant front-end damage.

The man's parole was cancelled and he was remanded in custody. Police would not confirm what offences related to his parole.
