“Due to the wasteful mismanagement of the current state government, we as a party are not willing to make grand spending commitments before we have the opportunity to complete a forensic review of the state’s books, allowing us to see where we can cut wasteful spending, reduce costs, and see what funds the state actually has to complete these vital infrastructure projects,” Mr Bryant said
The fight for a second river crossing stretches back to the 1990s and has seen a previous failed commitment worth over $200 million.
“With the state, federal and local council budgets in the state that they are in, the western bypass is not feasible at any point in the near future,” Mr Bryant said.
“That is why I will be pushing for the use of Doyles Rd as an alternative bypass, once the new bridge is built.”
Mr Bryant also identified an integrated cancer centre at Goulburn Valley Health as “an absolute necessity for the region”.
He also identified mental health resources, fruit fly prevention, foster and kinship care, TAFE and the redevelopment of the Shepparton Sports and Events Centre as areas that he would support more funding for.
These statements were made in writing after One Nation’s media team refused to let Mr Bryant participate in the video interviews that The News is producing ahead of the state election.
Multiple other candidates have agreed to participate, and their responses will be shared on The News’ Facebook and Instagram pages.
