Former Melbourne premiership defender Steven May will make a stunning one-off appearance for Corowa-Rutherglen this Saturday.
May, 34, will pull on the Roos jumper against Yarrawonga at JC Lowe Oval in the annual Rumble on the River clash.
It is a major coup for Corowa-Rutherglen who will be aiming to upset the Pigeons on their home deck in front of a bumper Kings Birthday weekend crowd.
Known for his formidable intercept marking and one-on-one defending May was a key figure in the Demons' 2021 drought-breaking premiership.
The blockbuster fixture will also feature a special netball milestone, with Yarrawonga A Grade legend Bridget Cassar set to play her 300th game.
May, a 1.9-metre key defender, retired from the AFL in March and has since been linked with East Ringwood Football Club.
Roos assistant coach Joel Price played a key role in securing the surprise signing, reaching out to May via Facebook Messenger.
May’s home club is Southern Districts in Darwin, where Price previously spent time and still has contacts.
