The scholarship, created to recognise the extraordinary four‑decade contribution of long‑serving Deniliquin Preschool teacher Helen Campbell, supports employees undertaking an early childhood teaching qualification.
Mrs Campbell, who celebrated 40 years at the preschool in February 2024, is widely regarded for her ability to create joyful, purposeful learning environments that nurture children’s strengths and interests.
Generations of local families have been shaped by her work, and the scholarship stands as a practical continuation of that legacy.
The program provides financial assistance for course fees, essential equipment and living costs during practical teaching placements - support that can make a difference for educators balancing work, study and family commitments.
Last year’s inaugural recipients were Kobie Nixon and Heidi Plant, both of whom have continued their studies with the help of the fund.
Miss Jefferies was awarded this year’s scholarship last week, by Mrs Campbell and River Region Early Education general manager Felicity Michael.
“The initiative reflects RREE’s commitment to a ‘grow your own’ workforce, ensuring local people have the opportunity to develop their skills and progress their careers within the community,” Mrs Michael said.
“Helen did an amazing job throughout her time here, and this is a way for her legacy to live on.
“By investing directly in its educators, RREE continues to strengthen the region’s early childhood sector, honouring Helen Campbell’s legacy not only in name, but in the ongoing development of the next generation of teachers.”
