The former X Factor participant and finalist at the World Championships of Performing Arts in Los Angeles, joined the production after being invited to audition.
Futuration brings together performers and creatives in a theatrical live spectacle.
“Think of Eurovision and the VMAs (Video Music Awards) in one,” Mr Lucas said.
On the night, Mr Lucas performed three songs, including a collaboration to open his second act.
His centrepiece was his original single Alien, staged with eight dancers and a 14-piece live orchestra, with preparation for the show taking six months.
“It was very exhausting but well worth it,” he said.
But the setlist he performed was not his call.
Futuration creative director Cassie McIvor chose Alien for its dark pop sounds, Mr Lucas said.
“She was really keen to have me perform something that’s kind of different that would look really good on stage,” he said.
Futuration director Benny Griggs said Mr Lucas was “an artist with his own sound, identity and story”.
His music video for Alien was filmed in Tatura earlier this year, turning the Ross Street Diner into a space-themed set.
“I’ve always wanted to film something in my home town,” he said.
“It has a piece of home in the video and it’s really good to put the Goulburn Valley on the map.”
The response to his music video, he said, was strong, with many people reaching out via social media.
The pop artist, who moved to Melbourne in 2018 and now splits his time between there and Los Angeles, hopes his feature on Futuration resonates with viewers right here.
“I hope that viewers, particularly in my home town, feel proud,” he said.
Mr Lucas’ message to young people with big dreams in regional towns is simple: no dream is ever too big.
He is set to release new music at the end of the year, before returning to Los Angeles in 2027 for another major project.
Futuration is produced by BGCreative, with season three airing on SBS on Sunday, November 8 at 7.30pm.
