Deniliquin hit back after 15 minutes but couldn’t close the gap.
Swan Hill continued to press forward, resulting in a 7‑1 win.
Club president and goalkeeper Matt Crothers said the result reflected the quality of the opposition, and the Wanderers’ depleted line-up.
“They’re a top team for a reason,” Crothers said.
“We were under strength with a few injuries, particularly with our two strikers out.”
Despite the scoreline, Crothers said the side showed plenty of fight.
“We probably scored early and had a pretty good first half, going into half-time 3-1, which was a fair result,” he said.
“It was very wet, and it was hard to get distance on the ball.”
Costly mistakes led to Swan Hill’s second‑half opener, but Crothers praised the effort across the park.
He noted Lucas Thompson was impressive along the edges, and Lungani Nyembe worked tirelessly throughout the game.
“We definitely had a few missed chances, but Swan hill proved they are a top team for a reason,” Crothers said.
The Wanderers have a bye this weekend, and a few more on the horizon, with La Trobe and Golden City withdrawing from the competition.
