Yarrawonga-Katamatite Rd was identifited by readers as Moira Shire’s most dangerous road. The road is owned by Vic Roads and resident, Doug Mcqueen says it’s only a matter of time before there is a major incident on the road.
Katamatite resident, Doug Mcqueen knows Katamatite-Yarrawonga Rd first hand and says, especially the section from Tungamah turnoff to Yourang Road, is “disgraceful and deteriorating all the time”.

“There is no signage warning motorists of the danger… it’s neglect,” he said.
“I’m concerned someone is going to die driving along the road the way it is.”
A former landscaper and heavy machinery operator, Mr Mcqueen uses the road regularly and said the little bit of maintenance that had been done had failed.
He says the problem is also with the road shoulders, which need to be better maintained so water doesn’t sit on the edges of the road where it gets under the bitumen and deteriorates the road further.
“Especially around Burramine Hall and Tungamah turnoff; it’s absolutely disgraceful and never gest fixed,” he said.
“In one area, we need to drive down the centre of the road for a couple of kilometres.
“With the amount of caravans and boats being towed on this road, it is only a matter of time before we have a major accident.”
Doug Mcqueen says small amounts of maintenance being done on sections of Katamatite-Yarrawonga Rd are failing. The road, owned by Vic Roads, was identified by readers as the worst in the Shire.
The RACV has analysed almost 20,000 kilometres of Victoria’s regional roads to identify the most dangerous.
Based on Australian Road Assessment Program (AusRAP) data, crash history and traffic volumes, RACV’s My Country Road campaign identified 52 dangerous highway sections in regional Victoria.
The Murray Valley Highway between Yarrawonga and Cobram was listed as one of 11 of the most dangerous roads in north east Victoria.
But Mr Mcqueen is not alone in naming Katamatite-Yarrawonga Rd as the worst in the Shire.
When the Yarrawonga Chronicle asked Facebook readers to identify which of Moira Shires’s roads were the most dangerous, the Katamatite road, owned by Vic Roads, was the clear loser.
Second to that was the section of road along Telford St, between McDonald’s and Bunnings in Yarrawonga, also owned by Vic Roads.
Here are some of your responses.

Lisa Ryan agree, went there on Tuesday and awful!
Jean Tooley Telford street from McDonald’s up to Bunnings
Shane Mcintosh Blown 4 tyres between Katamatite and Yarrawonga in 3 years, now go via Tungamah
Michael Adrian Johnson Yarra katty road is easily the worst in Victoria, I do a lot of travelling around rural vic and it’s easily the worst road I drive one. With the link road between Seymour and Shepparton being a close 2nd.
Kezza Smith Be easier to list the roads that aren’t fooked
Dianne Deveney Bunnings to Denis medical is terrible. Also, I think we should have a footpath from McDonalds to Denis medical. I saw an old lady last week on her walking frame, going along the edge of the road to the doctors. All the childcare centres are in this area. I’m sure there would be parents pushing prams to and from.
Val Smith Katamatite Yarrawonga Road. It’s repaired & weeks later it’s dangerous again. It needs to be fixed properly
Doug Mcqueen Yarrawonga to Katamatite Rd! Bloody shocking in places and has been for years!
Lisa Jay Definitely need a footpath from Denis Medical to Maccas. I had to drop kids off to day care and had to push the pram on the road. It's ridiculous and dangerous with trucks going past.
Norman Ross Its a shame that towns don’t join together and refuse to pay your Car registration, as it is unsafe to drive your car on these roads, they can’t lock us all up???
