Millah Murrah Angus, owned by Ross & Dimity Thompson, sold Millah Murrah Paratrooper P15 for $160,000 at their 31st annual Millah Murrah Angus Bull Sale on September 5.
The 19-month-old bull was purchased by Oldfield Angus, from Munglinup, in Western Australia.
This knocked off the previous record they set in 2015, when the sold Millah Murrah Kingdom K35 for $150,000 to a syndicate which included Taminick stud Witherswood Angus.
Mr Thompson said Millah Murrah Paratrooper P15 was in the top group of bulls they had bred.
"It is very rare to get a bull of such outstanding physical quality, backed by such a good EBV set with no apparent weaknesses," he said.
"He is certainly among the two or three best bulls we have produced in 50 years' breeding at Millah Murrah.
"Paratrooper is wonderfully true to Angus type and is a great bull all-round, no matter how you look at him.
"He has a pedigree that fits with many of the current female bloodlines in the Angus breed.
"He is by EF Commando from the US and has a maternal background featuring renowned Australian and New Zealand sires like Highlander of Stern, MM Woody W100, Matauri Reality, Crusader of Stern and Hingaia 469.
"He carries no Emperor or Regent. As such, he has a very broad application for the industry and we expect a lot of semen to go out over the next few years.
"All going well I’d expect semen sales will recoup his sale price several times over."
