From April 8 to 12, the pair attended the 2026 Equestrian Victoria Interschool State Championships held at Boneo Park Equestrian Centre on the Mornington Peninsula.
The event hosted 434 riders and 564 horses from 163 schools across Victoria.
Edith represented Goulburn Valley Grammar School as the only primary school student along side four high-school students: Amelia Petrie, Felicity Grant, Alexis Telford and Isabelle Vraca.
GV Grammar was ranked 10th out of 163 schools and in the individual primary school rankings, Edith was 15th out of 136.
The team participated in events ranging from show jumping and dressage to handy mount, an event where riders take their horse through a series of obstacles and tasks.
In the Year 4 to 6 handy mount, Edith took second place, earning her and Alfie a yellow ribbon.
Edith said she enjoyed “getting to see my friends, riding my horse and going to new places”.
She also enjoyed watching the hobbyhorse event and going on the dodgem cars.
Edith’s two younger siblings, Fleur, 8, and Charles, 9, came along to watch her compete.
To get Alfie ready for an event, Edith needs to prepare him by grooming him, plaiting his mane and tail, and loading him into the trailer.
In March, Edith attended the Scots Equestrian Interschool Challenge in Albury, again representing GV Grammar with Felicity Grant and Olivia Akers, where they were crowned champion school.
Edith had a lot of fun when she participated in a musical ride event with Olivia, where they both dressed up as Taylor Swift and did synchronised dressage to her music.
Edith is now looking forward to one day competing at a national level.
