The Shooting Industry Foundation of Australia (SIFA) is calling for a full repeal of the Terrorism and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2025, urging MPs to end what it calls the political scapegoating of licensed firearm owners and return to evidence-based policymaking.

SIFA is championing the incoming Firearms Legislation Amendment (Reforms Repeal) Bill 2026 as a necessary step to allow Parliament to assess what regulatory changes, if any, were genuinely required in the wake of the 2025 Bondi attack.
SIFA CEO James Walsh said focusing terrorism reforms on a highly regulated and law-abiding industry adds nothing to public safety and doesn’t tackle the actual cause of the tragic Bondi terror attack.
“The legislative changes introduced post-Bondi by the Minns Labor government have had a disastrous impact on the legitimate NSW shooting industry.
"The government used a tragedy to blur the line between genuine terror threats and highly vetted, legally licensed firearms owners," Mr Walsh said.
"It relies on fear rather than evidence. It is poor policy, and its biggest failure is that it won’t even make our communities any safer. This private member’s bill is a crucial first step for legislators to get us back to a point where we can have a genuine discussion without the high emotion and trauma following a terror attack."
