While an alternative model for the year is being discussed, Benalla’s youngest football stars could be back on the park as early as July 13 though after the Benalla District Junior Football League announced its intentions to resume training.
Club coordinators and coaches met with the league last month to discuss AFL Victoria protocols and if they could implement them successfully into a proposed eight-week training program to continue player development.
Violet Town hold on to hope for club celebrations
An implementation plan is being developed by AFL Victoria, and subject to government restrictions at the time, the league said it would work to resume a training program by the end of the July school holidays.
Adjustments will likely be made to training sessions to help run a smoother program, which could potentially run in age groups rather than teams.
The league said returning to play in a safe, hygienic, and controlled manner remained its number one priority, while strict social distancing restrictions would also be adhered to.

COVID-19 safety officers will be appointed by the league, with a call out being made for as much volunteer support as possible to deliver a program for the community’s junior athletes.
Players will also be asked to express their interest in participating in the program.
More information about the WDJFL season is expected to be released by AFL North East Border from Monday, June 22.
