For the first time in series history, the Super2 cars — the feeder series for the main Supercars championship — will be a part of the Darwin Triple Crown weekend at Hidden Valley Raceway, with both the main and support championships competing at the venue alongside each other.
Round two of the Super2 series comes a remarkable four months after the season opener at the Sydney 500 in February, and Best, driving the #78 Anderson Motorsport entry, will be looking to return to the track with similar form to what he produced in the opening qualifying session of the year.
Topping the time sheets to nab the season’s first pole position, Best, who finished as runner-up in the category on three straight occasions from 2021 to 2023, was only able to finish fourth in the first race in Sydney, before also dropping a place from fifth on the grid to end up sixth in the second race of the weekend.
It was still a solid outing for Best, who collected 222 points upon his return to racing to sit fifth in the championship ahead of this weekend, 39 points adrift of championship leader Lochie Dalton.
The Super2 cars will hit the track for the first practice session in Darwin at 12:10pm this Friday, June 19, ahead of a 20-minute qualifying session on Saturday morning.
The first race will commence at 1:55pm on Saturday afternoon, before a second qualifying session and race, both on Sunday.
There will be a further four rounds of Super2 action in 2026 following the Darwin Triple Crown weekend, with round three to take place in Perth from July 31 to August 2, before heading to Bathurst as part of the Bathurst 1000 weekend in October, a trip to Sandown in early November and then wrapping up at the season finale at the Adelaide Grand Final later that month.
While contending for the Super2 title in 2026, Best will also reprise his role as a co-driver for Blanchard Racing Team in the Supercars Enduro Cup events alongside Aaron Cameron in the #3 Mustang, a role that produced a stunning wet-weather stint at the Bathurst 1000 last season that saw Best run as high as second and challenge for the lead, before the eventual ninth-placed finish.
