Division 3 played at Lockington in overcast, windy and at times drizzly conditions.
Rod Reid skipped Archie Webster, Mason Glenn and Craig Taylor, and they were the only winning rink for the Diggers.
Winning their rink by 13 shots, they never looked like losing.
The final score was 24-11, and was a late finish on the day.
The pressure was on them to make up what the other two rinks lost by, but the task was bigger than their remaining ends allowed.
Niels Hilton’s rink of Jake Glenn, John Wilson and Callan Glenn had a close tussle all afternoon, and eventually went down by just one shot.
It was their first loss of the season.
The final score on the middle rink was 17-18.
Tony King was back on the greens and skipped his side of Jo Chick, Ian McKenzie and Garry Hulm on the windier side of the Lockington greens.
Luck was not on their side, nor did they cope with the wind.
They suffered a 15 shot loss, with the scorecard reading 27-12 after their 21 end game.
Overall the score was 56-53 which was a very close finish, considering team one’s devastating 15 shot loss.
The Diggers remain in 6th position and play Moama at home this Saturday.
Moama are second on the ladder.
The Division 5 RSL Diggers hosted Moama and came out on top, despite only winning one rink.
The overall win puts them back on top of the ladder.
Neville Austin’s team of Graham Gordon, Chris Frampton and Brian Clancy had a close finish, losing by only three shots. Their score after 21 ends was 19-22.
Meanwhile, their teammates on rink four, had a convincing 10 shot win, being 28-18 after the 21st end.
Gaye Goodwin, Danny Stanmore, Adam Harding and skipper Ron Marchetti’s win gave Division 5 the honours, and put them back in first place for the season with 52 points. Moama are second with 45 points.
In round six this Saturday, Division 5 will again play at home taking on Echuca.
Teams to be advised.
