The weekend pennant season came to an end for the Seymour bowlers when they were defeated by Tallygaroopna in their preliminary final on Saturday, March 2.
In an exciting contest, with the rinks split two apiece, Tally prevailed by just three shots.
It was a disappointing finish for a team that led the competition for much of the season.
Upon sober reflection, Seymour can be proud of its efforts after being promoted to this much tougher division following its Division 3 triumph the previous year.
Congratulations to Tallygaroopna and Shepparton Golf for making the grand final.
Biggles’ rink struggled early and was down by 13 shots at the break.
The Seymour bowlers clawed their way back into the match to trail by just five shots after 20 ends before Tally finished better to win by nine shots.
Dale Sellick’s rink took the lead on the seventh end and, with just three ends to play, had increased its lead to 10 shots.
Tally won the final three ends and reduced Seymour’s lead to six shots at the finish.
Graeme Flint’s rink came from seven shots down after just six ends to build a six-shot lead by the break.
It still led by one shot with three ends to play but couldn’t quite seal the deal over the closing ends and went down by three shots.
After dropping a four on the opening end, Max Hammond’s rink had the better of the first half and had built a solid 10-shot lead after 11 ends.
Tally then won six of the next seven ends to regain a narrow lead.
Hammond’s team regrouped and finished well to win five of the closing seven ends and a secure tough three-shot win.
