The winner of the men’s competition, who was clearly oblivious to the temperature, was Bill Matthews (6), who scored a fantastic 41 points.
The next best was Roger Edwards, who also had a great score of 40 points.
Not satisfied with just the win, Bill Matthews also claimed nearest-the-pin on the fourth, sixth and 17th holes, leaving the 12th for Greg Pell.
The mixed nine-hole winner was Stubby Byrne (23), with 16 points.
Saturday, March 2, was the monthly medal for the men and the women.
Greg Pell had an outstanding day out to win the men’s monthly medal and A-grade.
Greg set a new course record and included a rare albatross (three under par for the hole) on the first hole to have a terrific score of 69-4-65.
This was clearly the winning scratch score of the day, as well.
The B-grade winner was Gary Wright with 82-11-71 on a countback from Ben Davey.
C-grade was won by Russell Peel with 90-20-70. Surprisingly, despite his low round, Greg did not claim any of the nearest-the-pins.
The closest on the fourth was Mark Fountain; on the sixth, it was Ben Davey; the 12th was won by John Mundy; and on the 17th, Bill Matthews was the nearest.
The drive and pitch on the eighth was won by Gerard Hard, and on the 15th, it was Mark Fountain.
The ball pool went to those with net 72 or better and included Greg Pell, Russell Peel, Bill Schaeffer-Steel, Gary Wright, Ben Davey, Ian Richardson, Mark Fountain and Jac Smith-Williams.
The winner of the women’s medal was Shelley Dowling, with a nice 101-31-70 on a countback from Ricky Rickman.
The nearest-the-pin on the 17th also went to Shelley. The ball pool included Shelley Dowling and Ricky with net 70.
The Friday social nine holes this week is par over holes 16 to six.
Saturday is a par round for the men and the women.
