Former Corowa cricketer Mitch Wagstaff is making plenty of runs for Derbyshire Seconds and could find himself in the seniors before too long.
He was 12th man for the firsts in Derbyshire’s at Lords last week against Middlesex in the County Championships Division Two match.
Set a fourth innings target of 122, Derbyshire won by seven wickets. It was the first time red ball victory by Derbyshire at the venue since 2002.
Popularly known as ‘Waggy’, the now 22-year-old lived with Corowa Cricket Club President Paul Lavis and his family whilst playing for the Roos in season 2022/23.
“Waggy is a very talented ball striker and more than handy leg spinner,” Mr Lavis said.
“He has been contracted at Derbyshire for four years but hasn’t quite secured his spot in the first eleven as yet. Twin hundreds in the last second eleven games should push his case.
“Mitch and his family continue to keep in touch with our club.”
A video on Facebook shows Wagstaff displaying all the shots with clever footwork on his way to his latest century.
