Son,

Today's a difficult day
that always makes me sad
because it's just too late to say
the things I wish I had

You see, I wish I'd told you
far more often that I cared
and that I was so grateful
for the happy times we shared

And time's passed since the day you left
but still I'm asking why
you couldn't have stayed for longer
and we had to say goodbye

So on the day you went away all there's left for me to do is hope that heaven lets you know how much I'm missing you.
