Born Corowa to Patrick and Olive Whitty (Dec). The middle of six children. Sister and Sister-in-Law of Alan and Pat Whitty (Dec), Patrick and Jenny Whitty (Dec), Mary and Jock Ross (Dec), Peg Williams (Dec), Peter and Bev Whitty. Loved Sister-in-Law of Gordon and Hazel Miller (Dec), Fay and Jum Boquet (Dec), Joy (Dec) and Don Spencer. Admired and loved by all her nieces and nephews.
Educated at St Mary’s Corowa, Shirley Married Desmond Miller RAN in 1949. In his autobiography Des asserted that all he achieved in the Navy would have been impossible without Shirley’s support. Shirley, generally known as Nani, loved and admired by all, especially her children Margaret, Peter, Gregory and Rodney. By daughters in law, Jannette, Kat and Mo. Grandchildren, Tony, Jonathon, Melissa, William, Callum, Annabel, and Georgia. Great Grandchildren Calla and Anna, Isaac and Sylvie, Xavier, Eve, Jonah, and Asher, Finn and Remy, and August. She loved them all back. A devoted Catholic, Shirley volunteered for Vinnies for 50 years for which she was awarded an OAM in 2021. Shirley excelled at golf then bowls, loved the Bombers, the cricket, and had a keen interest in the horses. Shirley was admired by all and remained stoic even at the loss of her boyfriend Des in 2017.
Much loved and warmly remembered.
