Benalla Rural City Council meetings are generally held at 6 pm on Wednesday nights and people will be able to watch via a link on the council’s website.
Mayor Danny Claridge said COVID-19 had introduced many new things to council and this was one of them.

“Previously we wouldn’t be able to live stream, but now we can, enabling people to still feel connected to the work we are doing,” Cr Claridge said.
Through the Victorian COVID-19 Omnibus (Emergency Measures) Act 2020 councils have been authorised to close meetings to public attendance, as long as they make them available via a live stream.
This means the community can still take part in, and watch, the meetings from the safe, social distance of their homes.
The live stream is conducted in accordance with the Governance Local Law 2016, the Privacy and Data Protection Act 2016 and Australian copyright law.
The next meeting live stream will begin at 6 pm tonight, Wednesday, July 15, on the council’s website.

Under the Omnibus Act these measures will be in place until November 2, or otherwise legislated by the Victorian government.
