Running from May 18 to 24, the week celebrates the dedication and impact of volunteers.
This year’s theme, Your Year to Volunteer, also encourages people to make 2026 the year they step forward, get involved and make a difference in their communities.
“Volunteers continue to play a vital role in strengthening local communities,” Gannawarra Shire Council chief executive Geoff Rollinson said
“Their contributions help create connected, resilient and vibrant communities, and National Volunteer Week provides an opportunity to acknowledge and thank those who give so generously.’’
As part of celebrations, Cohuna’s Garden Park and the Kerang council building will be illuminated in red as a visible tribute to volunteers across the region.
The Gateway to Gannawarra Visitor Centre will also recognise its dedicated volunteers during the week through a special internal gesture of thanks, acknowledging the time, knowledge and commitment they contribute to supporting visitors and showcasing the Gannawarra region.
Northern District Community Health will recognise the contribution of the Gannawarra’s volunteers with morning teas at its Kerang and Cohuna centres.
The Cohuna event is on Wednesday, May 20, from 10am. To book your spot, phone Northern District Community Health on 5451 0200.
“Whether you’ve been volunteering for decades or are considering getting involved for the first time, 2026 is your year to volunteer,” Mr Rollinson said.
