Hosting Undera at Violet Town Recreation Reserve, the Towners put together a convincing four-quarter performance to record a comfortable 46-24 victory.
It was a win that came off the back of strong pressure, which was built throughout the game with strong defensive efforts and consistent transition down the court.
Creating multiple intercepts and pulling down rebounds across every quarter, the Towners controlled momentum as well as the general state of play, generating plenty of scoring opportunities in the process.
It was capitalised upon in attack by the shooters, who showed strong movement through the circle, with centre pass conversion a highlight throughout the game, the entire team converting strongly and working hard to ensure the efforts of the midcourters weren’t wasted.
Katrina Jung and Prue Holmes led the way in the win as the Towners’ two best, though it was a true team effort.
The win ensured the Towners improved to a 3-2 record from five games, a great turnaround in the past fortnight after sitting 1-2, and also saw them rise to fifth on the ladder, half a game clear of Tallygaroopna and Merrigum in sixth and seventh.
The Towners will look to make it three on the trot this weekend, when they travel to face Murchison-Toolamba.
Across the lower grades, the B grade side fell 25-29 to Undera, with Ash McDonald and Hannah Sharp among the best, while C grade secured a 30-25 win led by Ash Bertoli and Ella Bast.
The C Reserve Towners triumphed 40-37 in a close encounter, Cass Greatorex and Georgia McLean named in the best, while the under-17 side earned a big 59-19 win off the back of a full team effort.
In the under-15 clash, Mahalia, Sienna and Carlissa were among the best in a 13-39 loss, while the under-13s won 34-11, with Rylie, Bella and Ava taking out the awards.
The under-11 side had a win too, emerging victorious 33-11, with Mila and Amaya earning plaudits.
Football
Violet Town’s senior football side has slumped to a fourth loss of the season, with a big defeat at the hands of Undera at the weekend.
Hosting the Lions at Violet Town Recreation Reserve, the Towners proved no match for the visitors, falling to a 10.7 (67) to 29.15 (189) loss to sit 12th on the ladder with a 1-4 record.
A goalless first term saw the Towners trail by 61 points at the first break as Undera slammed through 10 unanswered majors, and while they managed to stem the bleeding somewhat in the second, kicking four goals to the Lions’ five, the scoreboard didn’t make for pretty reading at the half.
The home side went into the sheds down 4.5 (29) to 15.7 (97), and it only got worse after the main break, as Undera pressed on with a 14-goal-to-six second half to triumph by 122 points.
Mitchell Saunders was named the best in the loss for Violet Town, while Adam Pummeroy, skipper Nathan Abley, Angus Wood (one goal), Koby Ross and Luke Gilliland were also among the better performers.
Patrick Horsburgh and Robert Wilson managed to hit the scoreboard with three each, while Sam Leigh also kicked multiple goals, finishing the afternoon with a pair.
The Towners will look to regroup ahead of a trip to reigning premier Murchison-Toolamba this weekend.
In the reserves, a final term fightback saw the Towners fall just short, going down 6.6 (42) to 7.6 (48) against Undera despite kicking two goals and holding the Lions scoreless in the last term.
Declan Weston, Darcy Pastuszka, Mason Butterworth, Timothy Swift, Keigan Hicks and Jye Dunn were named in the best in the loss.
