It’s this unwavering commitment to youngsters’ growth that inspires Maree Williams to rise each morning and continue shaping the heart of her local community.
Maree was recognised for her immeasurable contribution, extraordinary dedication and service to others at the Greater Shepparton volunteer awards on May 18.
For more than 15 years, Maree has been an essential part of St Mary’s Mooroopna and St Mary’s Parish, while also generously volunteering with Rodney Park and the Shepparton Swans in the canteen on game days.
“I’m a passionate Shepp Swans person,” she said.
“But it’s about being inclusive of different ages and knowing you can contribute your ability for something good.”
Maree is widely recognised as an “icon” within the St Mary’s community, known for her ongoing care, compassion and humble service for those in need.
At school she provides before, during and after-school care, running both breakfast and after-school programs, and assists with events, camps and in the library.
Within the parish she looks to bring people together through the social connection of bingo.
As she grows older and spends more time on her own, Maree said it was the simple feeling of being needed that kept her moving forward, and she expected it always would.
“I love being around and being needed, I think that’s a factor when you get older” she said.
“It gives you that sense of achievement and sense of belonging.”
The wider St Mary’s community has thanked Maree for her commitment, professionalism and kindness for nearly two decades.
“We congratulate Maree on this wonderful and well-deserved recognition,” school principal Elaine Vertriest said
