“It’s a different type of event,” he said.
“It’s mostly collies and koolies, and they’re ‘eye dogs’.”
While cattle dogs like kelpies were not afraid to nip, sheep dogs stared the herd down, Mr Davidson said.
Each competitor will compete in 15-minute rounds, or runs, and must complete a set of tasks, including manoeuvring sheep through a gap, a race, a bridge and a pen.
Finals for improver and open classes will be held on Sunday, March 27.
Breakfast, morning tea and lunch will be provided by the Seymour Agricultural and Pastoral Society’s women daily.
“We have a good number of competitors this year,” Mr Davidson said.
The dog trials are sponsored by local businesses and organisations, including A Little Birdie Told Me, Burgess Rural, Seymour Agricultural and Pastoral Society, Elders Export, GMCU, the Royal Hotel and Seymour Vet Surgery.
District farming identities have also provided support for the event.
The Seymour Working Sheepdogs Trial is free to attend at Kings Park from Friday, March 25, to Sunday, March 27.
Trials begin from 8am each day.
