WOW is an annual day of appreciation for SES volunteers held during national volunteer week.
It recognises the extraordinary contribution SES volunteers make to communities across the country, supporting people during storms, floods, rescues and other emergencies 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Benalla SES member Graham Milner was joined by colleagues James Carboon, David Wallace and Gary Connor outside BWS on Wedneday, May 20.
“There's been a number of people passing through and giving donations,” he said.
“We're also going through the Royal Hotel with the donation bucket.
“They're helping us out by allowing us in there.”
Mr Milner said SES was thankful for all the funds it was raising on WOW, but said it was also a day to show off the life-saving equipment they use.
“We let people see all our equipment,” he said.
“We’ve got the big truck here today.
“This is our rescue truck, it carries all the gear that we have for major rescues, such as road crashes and that sort of thing.
“We have cutters and spreaders, or what you'd call the jaws of life, in the back of the unit.
“And we have battery-operated electrical drills and rattle guns.”
Mr Milner said, while most people know SES is called out to traffic incidents, floods and things like fallen trees blocking roads, it also backs up other emergency services.
“We assist the fire services in their time of need,” he said,
“We back them up with assistance in control centres and that sort of thing.
“And they reciprocate, they help us when we're in need of assistance with floods and storms.”
