Goorambat’s senior football clash was a shootout until the end, with next to nothing splitting the two teams all day.
The Bats led for most of the game and it wasn’t until late in the fourth quarter that Milawa poked its nose in front, until Brayden Stepien, with that beautiful kick of his, sealed the deal from the boundary line with a goal to put the Bats up by two points.
The ball went back to the centre and only seconds after the umpire threw it up the siren sounded, the Bats winning by two points.
Some other outstanding efforts on the day for the Bats were Vaughan Kirk with his in-close brilliance, Hunter Carter and Alex Maloney down back hardly getting beaten and taking the game on and Desi O’Kane was clean and strong with footy in hand. Great effort fellas.

Reserves
Milawa travelled to the Bat cave at the weekend, and after a wet week the conditions held up pretty well for Saturday’s contest.
The visitors got the jump on our Bats and in wet conditions it was always going to be difficult for our boys to claw back the deficit. Coach Clem tried some different tactics and moved magnets around which saw plenty of ruck rotations, giving his on ballers every opportunity to get first use of the ball.
Jeremy Sloan was again a stand out wherever he was on the field very rarely getting beaten. Steven Pickering was again in the thick of it in only his second game at the club and Shaun Lemmer was ever reliable down back all day, however the Bats were unable to come away with the win.

A Grade
Goorambat 42 def Milawa 32
A Grade came away with a well-earned 42-32 win over Milawa in a hard-fought contest. While the scoreboard suggests a comfortable margin, Milawa fought hard for the entire game and made it difficult for us to break away.
Michele Button was outstanding throughout the match, providing her usual composure and leadership, while Olivia Dalton controlled the game through the midcourt with relentless work rate and smart decision-making.
Nelle Cousins was once again influential in our defensive end of the court, applying constant defensive pressure and creating valuable turnover opportunities. The girls remained patient, trusted their structures and finished strongly to secure another important four points.

B Grade
The Bats brought everything they could to the court on Saturday, playing a very physical four quarters of netball, but unfortunately the game just did not fall our way against Milawa.
Defenders Kelsey Moss, Georgia Thomson and Lacey Carter worked tirelessly to turn over balls from a tall Milawa attacking line up. Their ability to shut down the ring with flying intercepts is a credit to their hard work and determination.
Mid courters Amelia Gall, Mya Bye and Tiffany Osborne faced the challenge of a physical and athletic Milawa mid court. They ran out an amazing four quarters, never dropping their heads and working hard the whole time to get the ball down and into the shooters.
Poppy Broomhall and Casey Hearman have started to find their flow together as a shooting combination and moved beautifully around the ring. Chelsea Bamford slotted into GA to bring some fresh legs onto the court and showed why she is one of our most versatile players.
Going from a two-goal lead to an unfortunate three-goal loss for the girls, the scoreboard did not reflect their effort on the court. We regroup this week and look to take on Bright in round 15.

B Reserve
Goorambat’s B Reserve side returned to the winners’ list with a strong 44-29 victory over Milawa, producing one of their most complete team performances of the season.
After spending time building combinations, the side finally came together and played as a united team, with every player contributing across the court. Their teamwork, communication and willingness to work for one another was evident from the opening whistle, allowing Goorambat to steadily extend their lead and control the match.
Abby Hammond was outstanding and deservedly earned best on court honours with a dominant performance.
Alyssa Priest made a welcome return from injury and had an immediate impact, earning second-best honours with her strong presence and shooting accuracy. Ally Ballard rounded out the best players, delivering another consistent performance and making valuable contributions throughout the game.
The convincing win is a great reward for the team’s hard work and growing confidence, and they will look to carry this momentum into the coming rounds.

Under 17s
The under-17s put in another determined performance against Milawa, going down 27-41. The girls continued to show plenty of resilience, competing hard for all four quarters and never dropping their heads.
There were some great passages of play and the team’s improvement continues to show each week, with their confidence and teamwork continuing to develop. While the result didn’t go our way, there were plenty of positives to take from the game as the girls continue to build.

Under 15s
Goorambat’s under-15s took on Milawa this week, getting off to a close start before eventually going down 12-34.
Best on court went to Tilly De Fazio, who played a strong game in defence, collecting intercepts, deflections and turnovers. She combined well with Ava Hayes, who worked hard to keep her eyes on the ball and used clever footwork to disrupt the space of the shooters. Alarna Button timed her leads well and worked with her fellow attackers to reposition and create smart shooting opportunities.
Despite a competitive opening, Milawa capitalised on a few small errors to pull away. The Bats continued to work hard until the final whistle and can take plenty of positives from their performance.
