On Saturday the Bats travelled to Whitfield to take on King Valley. The weather really turned it on for us with it being cold and very wet.
King Valley started well kicking five of its eight goals in the first quarter. Goorambat was able to kick a few goals in the first quarter to go into quarter time down by 13 points.
After the first quarter, though, the rest of the contest turned into a scrap and a territory game. Campbell McCoy returned and was very good in his first game after a couple months out, Curtis Anker rucked well all day, Vaughan Kirk & Victor Butler were in and under getting muddy, but King Valley was too good on the day.

Awards: Best on ground Peter Davis Rural Supplies - Campbell McCoy, Goorambat Railway Hotel - Curtis Anker, Gladstone’s Ampol Fuel - Vaughen Kirk, Hollywood’s Pizza - Victor Butler, Royal Hotel - Hunter Carter
Reserves
Goorambat 1.1 7 def by King Valley 13.9 87
Our reserves travelled to Whitfield on Saturday to take on King Valley. In colder, wet and muddy conditions the boys knew we had to score early in the game. We had several forward entries but only managed 1 goal thanks to Declan Lawford. The backline was fighting hard all day led by Shaun Lemmer who played one of his best games for the year, when moved onto the ball he continued with his tackling pressure and several clearances. Kris Barnard and David Priest were working hard at ground level spoiling and rebounding plenty of attacks. The ever reliable Jeremy Sloan was getting involved in everything and when moved into the ruck started dominating the midfield. Sam Shepard was presenting well and made several hard contests. Lawrence Richard’s worked his way into to the game with a few marks and getting more involved. Unfortunately in the poor muddy conditions we were only able to score another point for the game. The boys attacked the ball hard all day and never gave up right to end.

Netball
A Grade
A Grade travelled to King Valley this week and faced difficult wet conditions, but the girls adapted brilliantly to come away with a convincing 52-26 victory.
After a strong start, the side maintained their intensity throughout the game and were able to play smart netball, taking care of possession and making the most of their opportunities.
Kylie Relf was outstanding in the ring, providing a reliable target and finishing strongly despite the slippery conditions. Sophie Hammond had an excellent game, working tirelessly in goals and providing plenty of drive and composure, while Charli was influential with her defensive pressure and ability to create turnovers that kept the momentum in Goorambat’s favour.
It was a pleasing four-quarter performance from the girls, with everyone contributing in a strong team effort and continuing to build momentum as the season progresses.

B Grade
The Bats got off to a strong start on a chilly winter’s day at Whitfield with a full squad available and ready to go. From the opening whistle, the girls played consistent and disciplined netball, setting the tone early and maintaining their intensity throughout the game.
In the shooting circle, Poppy Broomhall and Ally Ellis combined beautifully in the first half, shooting accurately and moving strongly to create opportunities. Defensively, Kelsey Moss and Lacey Carter applied relentless pressure, creating numerous turnovers and driving the ball down the court.
Through the midcourt, Mya Bye, Chelsea Bamford and Tiffany Osborne provided calmness and control, linking defence to attack with confidence and precision. After half time, Casey Hermon entered the shooting circle and proved to be a strong target, continuing the momentum and contributing to an impressive team performance.
While the scoreboard reflected a comfortable victory, King Valley competed strongly throughout the match, making it an honest contest. The win was a valuable percentage booster and a reward for the team’s consistent effort across all four quarters.

Under 17s
It was a cold and wet morning against King Valley on Saturday, but the girls started the game strongly, showing great competitiveness and determination. They worked well together to move the ball down the court, converting opportunities into goals.
Their defensive pressure on the King Valley players forced multiple turnovers, allowing us to stay with them for most of the game. King Valley managed to pull away in the final quarter as we ran out of legs, but the girls never stopped fighting and are really starting to come together as a team.
Yolanda Bourke was awarded best on court honours for her outstanding work in the shooting circle. She held strongly, played with confidence, and kept the attack end calm and composed throughout the game.
Cienna Berry earned second best for her defensive efforts through the midcourt. She made her opponent work hard for every possession, creating turnovers and held balls, while also playing a key role in transitioning the ball into our attacking end.
Katelyn Russell showed great leadership in defence from the opening whistle. She recorded numerous tips and intercepts, applied constant pressure to the opposition shooters, and made scoring difficult throughout the game.
Overall, the girls should be very proud of the performance they produced on Saturday. Their effort, determination, and teamwork were evident from start to finish, and I’m looking forward to seeing how much they continue to improve throughout the rest of the season.

Eliza Keen had a strong game through the midcourt, driving hard to create space and communicating well with her teammates. Ava Hayes was impressive in defence, showing strong hands to pull in a slippery ball off the rebound. Alarna Button continued to demonstrate strong leadership on court, creating movement through the attacking end and showing patience with the ball.
